Some tips and thumb rules for when using K1
- 60% is the maxim K1 that should be add to a Biological Filter, to ensure perfect Fluidisation.
- Aeration should be provided at ½ Litre Air to 1 Litre K1 on a minimum basis. For example, 40 litres Air to 80 Litres K1. This is critical for adequate oxygenation of the Bacterial Colony and to create sufficient agitation for fluidisation and cleaning of the K1.
- A One Hundred (100) Litre mature bacterial colony of K1, can process the waste ammonia produced by ½ a kilo of High Protein Feed – Daily.
- 1 Cubic Foot = 28.31 Litres of K1

Warning – All k1 is not the same
Our K1 is sourced from a number one producer in China, they supply Wimaca, Filtreau and many other European customers, while meeting EU Standards.
There are literally hundreds of suppliers of K1 in China, but only a few manufacture K1 to the correct specifications and standard.
- Low surface area due to the ‘K1’ not having enough ribbing.
- Too much recycled HDPE used, makes ‘K1’ very brittle and breaks easily.
- Low quality and less HDPE used makes the ‘K1’ have a lesser density and not fluidising properly.
